Hale-Bopp’s Inner Coma

C/1995 O1 (Hale-Bopp)
C/1995 O1 (Hale-Bopp)

Hei Artists!

Not many artists on ASOD make sketches of the structures in the inner coma of comets.
Very interesting things may happen in the light coma, which is difficult to show photographic.
The spirals in the comet Hale-Bopp were sharp (as a painting) visually, but at best diffuse on
photos! Therefore it is very importent to document visually and on a sketch.
By using high power on the telescope you can observe details (jets) near the nucleus, and
over a period of time other interesting phenomenon, the most dramatic : you may discover a
breaking of the nucleus!
Such structures is also best seen against a lighter sky, as with observations of Venus.
Remember: Many things can happen in the head of comet ISON later this year!!
Back in 1976 , I could observe the splitting in comet West (3 parts)!
I used watercolor crayons for the sketch.
loc. : Trondheim, Norway.

Clear sky and best wishes from Per-Jonny Bremseth!

Notes:

Horizontal image investment because used diagonal mirror.

The predominant color on the planet is a very pale yellow (at other times showed an intense golden) contrasting with some greyish belts with ill-defined irregularities. It clearly shows the shadow of the planet on the rings.

The Cassini Division shows a high contrast and a black is intense and well defined.

I could clearly see the satellites Titan, Rhea, Dione. Tethys only very weakly.

Enceladus, I’d be on the limit of this equip, but It was not possible to distinguish. Mimas is beyond the scope of this opening.

Bonjour,

Voici un dessin de la comète C2011L4 Panstarrs fait avec un dobson de 345mm, focale 1504mm et un oculaire de 40mm (37 fois de grossissement)
Elle est encore bien brillante et très belle à voir.

Hello,

Here is a Sketch of the comet C2011L4 Panstarrs done with a 345mm Dobson, 1504mm focal length and an eyepiece of 40mm (37 times magnification).
It is still bright and beautiful to see.

Hello friends artists,
this is my sketch of the Panstarrs, one of the comet of 2013. The tail of the comet was long enough and the head was very light. This is my first comet and I liked it so much. I observed it with a 100 mm telescope, at 7,30 p.m. It was visible with naked eye like a 2 magnitude star. Moreover I observed it with a 20×80 binocular, and it appeared equal, more or less.

Hope you like this sketch! And I hope you understand my english!

Comet PanSTARRS: Panoramica e Particolare

C/2011 L4 (PanSTARRS)
C/2011 L4 (PanSTARRS)

Hello Artists, after a long time with rain(GRRRRR!!), I made two sketches about Comet PanStarrs!! I go out from work and I go to hill near Little town of Saltara. Very cold temperature and light icely wind. The clouds covered the zone but ,finally they go out from the horizon. I see the comet under the rest of gray clouds and, on blue paper i made the first sketch with bino 10×50. In the same time I take my big bino 25×100 on tripod and made the second sketch, with pencil on black
paper. Unfortunately the comet was very low and the sketch was very difficult to made.
I hope like you.
Ciao a tutti!!
Giorgio.

Site: Saltara,19 March 2013

Instruments: bino 10×50 and big bino 25×100
Media: Coloured pencil on blue paper, with pencil on black paper
seeing: Very clear after rain but icely temperature!

Name: c/2011 L4 panstarrs
Type: Comet
Location: Frosinone, Italy (near Rome)
Date: 21th march 2013
Media: graphite pencil for the first sketch then digital tools (gimp)

Here’s my sketch of the Panstarrs, made from Frosinone. The sky was bright when i observed the comet. It was visible with naked eye like a 2-3 magnitude star… I could see it after 7.10 pm. With the binocular the comet shows a bright core and a fuzzy tail about 1° long.

hope you like it!

if you want there are more sketches in my blog, http://astronomiadabalcone.blogspot.it/

Jupiter – Six Hour Rotation

Jupiter - December 5/6, 2012
Jupiter – December 5/6, 2012

Probably my best Jupiter of the season so far, a 6 hour strip map showing over half of the surface of the planet which I drew back on the night of 05-06 December 2012. I made the drawing with my 8 inch Newtonian Reflector here in Leicester, UK. I make the original drawings at the telescope in black and white and then use water colour pencils to make a colour version indoors.

Best wishes,
-Paul

PanSTARRS at 50X

C/2011 L4 (PanSTARRS)
C/2011 L4 (PanSTARRS)

Hey ASOD- Friends!

I send once more one sketch of PANSTARRS.
This time in lower magn. (50x). the comet is now easier seen with naked eyes
and fine in binos as it was higher on the sky on darker sky.
The faint dust to east was interesting and the sharp edge to west.
Info on my sketch..
I used pencil on white paper and inverted in colour.
The observation was done near Trondheim, Norway.
Thank you very much on the nice comments on my sketches!!

Clear sky from Per-Jonny Bremseth.
