Hi This is a sketch of the planet Jupiter made throught my 6” achromatic refractor (TS Individual 152/900), binoviewer, a pair of 8 mm eyepieces and glasspath that gave me 293x. The seeing was very good during all the observation, allthought the arriving of high clouds at 01:00 am ended with the fun.
It was remarcable the wedge that seems to divide the NEB and a bright patch between this belt and NTB that reminds a great oval.

In big 22×100 bino view was really breathtaking.

This is my draw of this beautiful pair of galaxies. That night the seeing was not very good and Jupiter vision was suffering a lot, so I pointed at some galaxies. My north sky has some luminic contamination so the sky background is not totally dark. Nonetheless M51 shows a very contrasted image. I could see two arms and a darker space between them. The end of the arm opposite to NGC 5195 had weaker light but the arm that touches 5195 was clearly visible. A wonderful sight¡¡
Todays solar surface showed some interesting features that I tried to capture. There were a lot of long detailed filaments as well as a region to the east that looked like a piece of silk that had been crinkled and then flattened. To the west of this area was a brightening plage, at the moment the brightest region in the observation besides a bright spike on the limb. The prominences to the north were more subtle and dim.

Since I saw this wonderful comet on last december, I haven’t had the opportunity to process the raw sketches on photoshop.
I was initially planning to do one sketch, but since on 30th December there was a “conjunction” with M79, I decided to compare how bright they seemed compared each other. There was an enormous difference in apparent magnitude between the two objects as you can see in the sketch. I have the “feeling” of having seen the comet tail but being honest I could not adapt well my night vision since there was a lot of artificial lights around and therefore It could be just a “feeling” than a real view.

I also measured the temperature (in shadow) before and during
the eclipse. The sky was clean until just before the end of the partial
phase. I enjoyed the max. partial phase very much. Beautiful!!!
I used crayons (watercolor) on black paper.
On the western side of Mare Imbrium are craters Diophantus (19 km.) and Delisle (25 km.) with mons Delisle in between and closer to the crater of the same name. A dorsum or ridge here is perhaps a buried crater rim and creates a sharp edge curving demarcation on the terminator side of the Moon at the time of sketching. Some of the massifs in this region such as mons La Hire (1.5 km. high), mons Vinogradov (1.4 km.) and mons Delisle( 0.8km. high) are described by some geologists as likely left over remnants from the rings of the Imbrium impact. Additional craters seen at this observation included Euler (2.8 km.), Artsimovich (9 km.), Gruithuisen (17 km.) and Heis (15 km.)and numerous smaller unnamed.
For this sketch I used: black Strathmore 400 Artagain paper, 9”x 12”, white and black Conte’pastel pencils, a soft charcoal pencil, brush and a blending stump.

January the 10th the two inner planets of our solar system are very close. Following the nice pastel sketch made by Frank Jan 6th (ASOD Feb 2nd) I will take the opportunity to compare its view with this I made 4 days later.
While my watercolor session, a probable Quadrantide meteor produce a brilliant flash.
The two planets are easily seen in the field of my UWA EP.

As I always see a rabbit in the Moon I thought maybe the Easter Rabbit Moon has a lot to do getting all those eggs hidden and no time for a long performance, though it was still a great show!
This is a 7×50 binocular view sketch during totality. The Rabbit in the Moon appears to be flying a kite asterism which seemed fitting for the spring occasion of the season.

The sky was clear but the nova was very low on the horizon, with binoculars it looked splendid and bright.
Although very easy to locate from Nunki naked eye vision was difficult due to its low height.
I made a digital animation in GIMP of a partial eclipse of Europa by Ganymede (27%). During the event I saw clearly a “division” between the two moons but it was impossible to tell which moon was before the other. Because I couldn’t detect any color difference between the two moons I guess the “division” was an optical illusion due to the 8-figure. Hope you like it!

Hi ASOD! Here’s my sketch of this stunning pair (or trio) of galaxies located in the constellation of Virgo. I stumbled across these galaxies by mistake when I was searching the quasar 3c 273, lucky me!
This sketch contains the open cluster NGC 1502 and an asterism made up of a 2 1/2° chain of stars that forms a line from the cluster towards the northwest called Kemble’s Cascade. Kemble’s Cascade was so named by the late Walter Scott Houston, who authored Sky and Telescope’s magazine column “Deep Sky Wonders” for decades. Lucian Kemble was the person who sent Houston a description and drawing of the cascade.
This sketch is one of the renderings I am doing for the Astro League’s Sketching Award Program. The moon was in Aries as it was setting over the Pacific. I was able to get some of Mare Crisium. This was done at the Haleakala Amateur Astronomers’ site at the summit of Haleakala this past Sunday, March 22. 2015. I viewed it with my C925/CGEM on a pier with a 2″ Swan 40mm EP at 58X.

I always have issue to find Uranus, without GoTo, it’s not so easy…and I don’t like facility…
Thinks are moving in our planet system. It’s why “planetos” in Greek means “vagabond”.
So I use the opportunity of this double conjunction just a week from each other to find Uranus and its so nice colour.
The Venus-Uranus separation was 5.2’ Venus was 10’000 more brilliant than Uranus, while the separation between Mars and Uranus, one week later was 16.25’
The faint K star between Mars and Uranus is HIP 4325 mag=9.5, so no Uranus satellites were visible with my material.
I sketch the two fields on white watercolour paper with inverted method using a chromatic wheel, orange for Venus, blue for Mars and crimson red for Uranus then I just have to invert the two sketches after scanning. The deal is to manage the colour values in inverted mode.
