Martin,

Nice sketch and an interesting story to go with it. I’ve been observing Comet Lulin in the early AM too (made my 5th observation on Jan 23rd with a 108mm reflector) and you were able to detect much more of the tail than I was. I’m curious about the position angle of the tail/anti-tail and would like to compare notes–I’ll e-mail you from your website.

Thanks very much everyone for the nice comments. I should point out that the real tails are much fainter than they look on the sketch, simply because I had to enhance them in order to show them up with any clarity. It’s a nice looking comet with a nice future!.

The sketch was made using pencil and white paper. I took a b&w image of this using my camera (in natural light outside)then inverted the colours using photo elements and that was it. – I have no scanner.

Frank, took me long enough to catch it but I blame the weather for that!

Marek, I will do my best to get another sketch done.

Jeff, good to hear from someone in Ireland. I’m still suffering from that pre-dawn obsv. Comets are great but they are hard on us observers!
